OSHA To Conduct Cadmium Exposure Seminar
In Ft. Lauderdale
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Reducing cadmium exposure for aircraft repair workers is the focus of a free OSHA seminar scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, at Florida Atlantic University in Ft. Lauderdale.
Employers in the aircraft repair and maintenance industry are encouraged to attend the two and one-half hour outreach program to be conducted by OSHA's Fort Lauderdale area office.
Because workers in this industry have a much higher risk of developing illnesses caused by over-exposure to cadmium, OSHA is initiating a local emphasis program for the inspection of aircraft repair and maintenance workplaces. OSHA is offering the seminar so employers will be prepared should their establishments be inspected.
During the seminar, staff from the OSHA Ft. Lauderdale area office will address OSHA regulations and requirements for: monitoring employee exposure to the chemical; medical surveillance; recordkeeping; personal protective equipment including respirators; proper hygiene practices; ventilation; hazard communication, and employee training.
Staff from the University of South Florida will attend the seminar to explain the free consultation and training services they provide to employers throughout the state. They can be reached toll-free by calling (866) 273-1105.
To register for the March 20 seminar call Ramona Morris, assistant area director, or Vergie Bain, compliance assistance specialist at (954) 424-0242. They are also available to answer questions about the seminar or the topic.
