Region 5 News Release 04-1772-CHI Sept. 13, 2004 Contact: Brad Mitchell Phone: (312) 353-6976 OSHA Rejoins Safety Partnership with Bovis Lend Lease at Major Chicago Construction Site
CHICAGO -- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will rejoin a safety partnership with the Bovis Lend Lease company, prime contractor at the 71 S. Wacker St., Chicago, construction site of the Hyatt World Headquarters building. OSHA had withdrawn its participation in the partnership following an inspection at the construction site where the agency found safety violations, and issued citations to the company. Those safety violations have now been corrected and the agency has agreed to reenter the partnership. OSHA partners with employers who commit to safety practices above what the OSHA regulations require. Partnerships focus on reducing accidents and injuries by providing intensive training to workers and subcontractors, a strong audit function to ensure the job remains safe, and effective feedback and corrective action when necessary. # # #
