WASHINGTON -- The Maritime Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH) will hold an open meeting in Washington, D.C., March 31, 2005. The meeting will be held at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Room C 5516 A-B, Washington, D.C. The committee's work groups will meet from 9-4:30 p.m. on March 30. The full committee will meet from 8:30-4:30 p.m. on March 31. Agenda items for the full committee meeting include hazardous energy (lockout/tagout), and presentations by the workgroups on health, container safety, traffic safety, and safety culture. MACOSH was established to advise the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health on issues relating to occupational safety and health for workers in the maritime industries, which includes shipyards, longshoring, and marine terminals. Written comments and requests to make oral presentations may be submitted to Vanessa L. Welch by March 15, 2005 to the Office of Maritime, OSHA, U.S. Department of Labor, Room N-3609, 200 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington D.C., 20210. Presentation requests should specify the amount of time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear, and an outline of the presentation. Requests to speak may be granted as time permits. Individuals with disabilities wishing to attend the meeting and who require special accommodations should contact Ms. Welch at (202) 693-2060 no later than March 15. Notice of the MACOSH meeting is published in the March 2 Federal Register. Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees.
