Region 3 News Release: 04-1414-PHI (osha 04-086) Date: Wed., July 28, 2004 Contact: Leni Uddyback-Fortson Office: (215) 861-5102 New OSHA Partnership Formed to Protect Workers During The St. Paul Homes Expansion Project ERIE, Pa. -- Workers involved in the construction at St. Paul Homes, Greenville, Pa., will be safer because of a new partnership formed between the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Mistick Construction. OSHA and Mistick formalized the partnership at a ceremony on July 26, 2004. "More than 250 tradespersons will work on Saint Paul Homes during the course of the construction," says John Stranahan, area director of the Erie OSHA office. "As a result of this agreement, everyone involved will work together to ensure that all necessary safety standards are met." Founded in 1867, St. Paul Homes is a continuing care retirement community in Greenville, Pennsylvania, which offers cottages and apartments for independent living, assisted living apartments, and the Health Center which offers nursing care, rehabilitation and Alzheimer's care. The St. Paul Homes expansion project involves construction of a new 192- bed health center and renovation of the existing health center into apartments for independent living. OSHA's Strategic Partnerships for Worker Safety and Health are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with groups including trade associations, labor organizations, and employers. The Partnership goals include developing and implementing model contractor safety and health programs, achieving recordable injury and illness rates below the National average for the construction industry, and controlling the four top causes of construction injuries: falls, struck-by and caught-in incidents, and electrocutions.
