OSHA, North Texas Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, QUOIN Form Partnership to Promote Construction Safety

DALLAS -- Better health and safety for construction workers in North Texas is the goal of a new partnership uniting the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the North Texas Chapter of the American Builder's and Contractors Inc. (ABC), and QUOIN, a chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

OSHA Strategic Partnerships for Worker Safety and Health are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with groups, including trade associations, labor organizations, and employers. OSHA's area offices in Dallas and Fort Worth are working together in this partnership.

"The Labor Department is committed to protecting the well being of construction workers in America's workforce," said OSHA Regional Administrator John Miles. "All employees need to be assured of a healthful work environment. This partnership goes a long way in ensuring that goal is accomplished."

QUOIN is the third largest chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) with a membership base of 1411 firms. Nationally, AGC is comprised of a total 32,000 member firms providing its Chapters and members with comprehensive services.

ABC is a national construction organization representing approximately 23,000 member firms in 80 chapters. North Texas ABC is comprised of over 297 members throughout the North Texas area and is the only organization in the United States devoted exclusively to representing the interest of merit shop contractors.

The objective of the agreement is to provide benefits to participating companies or members of these two organizations, to voluntarily improve their safety and health programs. Upon approval by OSHA, these companies are exempt from OSHA programmed inspections for a 12-month period. After that time, the companies are re-evaluated.

Employers and employees with questions regarding this or other OSHA partnerships can all the Dallas area office at (214) 320-2400 or the Fort Worth area office at (817) 428-2470, or visit the OSHA website at www.osha.gov.

Since its Strategic Partnership Program began in 1998, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has formed more than 300 partnerships, impacting over 13,000 employers and 573,000 employees across the United States.
