WASHINGTON -- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has signed a Strategic Partnership agreement with the U.S. Department of the Army to continue their commitment to improving the safety and health of civilian and contract employees working at Army installations. "I am pleased that the Army has joined this partnership with OSHA to promote and achieve safety and health excellence," said Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Edwin G. Foulke, Jr. "In renewing our Strategic Partnership, we will work cooperatively to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses by developing systems and best practices to prevent workplace hazards. I am confident that this partnership will continue to produce significant improvements in safety and health at Army installations nationally and worldwide." Thirty-seven installations/organizations will participate in this partnership to achieve the following goals:
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees. OSHA’s role is to promote the safety and health of America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
