• Hurricane Gustav Hits Louisiana
Baton Rouge and LSU were significantly damaged by Hurricane Gustav on September 1, 2008. We are still experiencing some of the effects, but wanted to let everyone know that the NCBRT is up and running. All of our courses are still being delivered. Please contact us if you have any questions.

• NCSRT Director to Head National Agency
Jim Fernandez, director of the National Center for Security Research and Training at LSU, was appointed chairman of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium. The Consortium is the main counter-terrorism training vehicle of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

• U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu Press Release on NCBRT Funding
A press release sent out by U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, states that the Senate Appropriations Committee passed the Homeland Security Bill. The bill secured $22 million dollars for the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training for 2009.

• 2008 World SWAT Challenge
The NCBRT extends its congratulations to six members of the Baton Rouge Police Department SWAT team. The team took home the honor of Rookie Team Champion in the 2008 World SWAT Challenge in Little Rock, AR. The NCBRT is proud of each of these emergency responders who have participated in one or more of the NCBRT’s counter-terrorism training courses. • Working Together with the AMA and Red Cross
The NCBRT is please to pair with the American Medical Association and the American Red Cross to offer online training. The NCBRT was recently asked by DHS to partner with the two organizations in order to host courses that reflect a variety of counter-terrorism training areas.

• 2008 Training Catalog Available
A new, updated edition of the NCBRT training catalog is now available online. This latest edition features details about each NCBRT course and breaks them down into four training categories (Community Planning and Communication; Public Safety; Medical and Public Health; Bioterrorism, Agroterrorism, and Food Safety) The purpose of this catalog is to assist emergency responders in finding the right training to prepare today for tomorrow’s threats.
