Downloading, Installing, and Running the Worksheet

Downloading the Worksheet

To download the Worksheet for Windows or Macintosh, choose one of the download links, at right. You can also use an FTP utility to download the Worksheet (see the link, Using an FTP Utility... at right, for more information).

Note: If you saved mixtures in earlier versions of the Worksheet, the save files will not work in version 1.9.2. (See our Frequently-Asked Questions section for more information.)

Installing the Worksheet

On a Windows PC

Once you have downloaded the installation program, in Windows Explorer, double-click the "react95.exe" file icon, then follow the directions you'll see on your screen.

On a Macintosh

The Reactivity Worksheet has been compressed so that you can download it from the Internet. Some browsers are configured to automatically decode compressed files. If yours is, you should see a folder called "Chemical Reactivity Worksheet 1.9" on your desktop. If your browser is not configured to decode files, you need a decoding utility to install the Worksheet. (You can obtain a free copy of the decoding utility StuffIt Expander by using the link at right.) To uncompact the program, use your decoding utility. (If you are using StuffIt Expander, either (1) drag the file onto the StuffIt Expander icon on your desktop, or (2) start StuffIt Expander, then from its File menu, choose Expand, then select the file.)

Running the Worksheet

In Windows

In Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or XP, to start the Worksheet, open the Start menu, then point to Programs, then to Chemical Reactivity, and then click Chemical Reactivity Worksheet. Follow the directions on your screen to learn how to use the Worksheet.

On a Macintosh

Open the "Chemical Reactivity Worksheet 1.9" folder, and then double-click the file "Reactive.sta" to start the Reactivity Worksheet. Follow the directions on your screen to learn how to use it.

In Windows, the installer creates a "Hazmat" directory (folder) at the location you indicate on your hard drive, and places the Reactivity Worksheet and its supporting files in that directory. To ensure trouble-free operation of the Worksheet, do not move any files out of the "Hazmat" directory or rename any files it contains. It serves as the location for all software produced by the CAMEO (Computer-Aided Management of Emergency Operations) Team at NOAA and EPA. (Some supporting files used by the Worksheet are also used by other software we produce.) To ensure that you can download other software later without problems, don't move or rename the "Hazmat" directory.
