Air Transportation Oversight System (ATOS) Certificate Management Office (CMO)

The ATOS CMO provides expert guidance and assistance to Flight Standards field offices in the full range of certification, certificate management, surveillance, and evaluations conducted on air carriers operating under 14 CFR Part 121. In addition, the ATOS CMO is responsible for ongoing assessments and continuous improvement of Air Transportation Oversight System processes, ensuring that processes and procedures are designed, developed, and deployed according to system safety principles.

ATOS processes assess the safety of air carrier operating systems using system safety principles, safety attributes, risk management, and structured system engineering practices. The FAA's goal with ATOS is to foster a higher level of air carrier safety using a systematic, data-driven approach to identify safety trends and prevent accidents. More »
