About Video Files

Some sections of this site offer movie or video clips in which you can watch, for example, the trajectory of spilled oil or a jellyfish propelling itself through the water. To view these video files, you must download and install a free browser "plug-in," such as the QuickTime plug-in by Apple Computer, Inc. or the Real Player plug-in by RealNetworks, Inc. These free applications enable your computer to handle video, audio, and animation.

Once you have installed one of these plug-ins on your computer, your browser will open the video file and you'll see controls, similar to those of a VCR, that allow you to play, pause, fast-forward, and rewind the video, as well as a scroll bar you can use to "scroll" through the video.
