U.S. Census Bureau

puerto rico municipios

The Census Bureau publishes estimates of total population and demographic components of change (births, deaths, and migration) for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and its 78 municipios. A municipio is the government unit that is the primary legal subdivision of Puerto Rico; the Census Bureau treats the municipio as the statistical equivalent of a county. The reference date for Puerto Rico estimates is July 1.

More detailed estimates and projections for Puerto Rico may be found in the Census Bureau’s International Data Base.

Note: A processing error occurred in the July 1, 2007 Puerto Rico Commonwealth and Municipio Population Estimates, affecting the total population and the number of persons 85 years old and over. As a result, the Population Estimates Branch replaced the Vintage 2007 Puerto Rico Commonwealth and Municipio Population Estimates previously released. If you have any questions, please call the Population Estimates Branch at 301-763-2385.
