MARPLOT Maps
MARPLOT uses standard maps based on TIGER/Line data from the U.S. Census Bureau. These maps include labeled map objects such as roads, water bodies, railroads, and parks. Maps are available for U.S. states (at the county level) and territories. To download any of these free maps, select the link titled MARPLOT Maps at right.
MARPLOT maps have also been integrated into programs such as LandView and the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) Viewer.
LandView Maps
LandView is a database management system that uses MARPLOT as its GIS display. You can use LandView to view maps of U.S. counties or other geographic areas, and to see environmental and census data describing those areas.
LandView's MARPLOT maps include:
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulated sites
- Demographic data
- Geographic boundaries (such as states, counties, cities, and congressional districts)
- Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) features
- Selected Federal Lands from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Atlas
LandView was developed by EPA, NOAA, USGS, and the U.S. Census Bureau. To get LandView, follow the links at right. LandView includes its own MARPLOT maps and the MARPLOT program, so you do not need to download those separately.
ESI Maps
ESI maps show areas and resources that are sensitive to oil:
- Biological resources (such as nesting birds),
- Human-use resources (such as a tourist beach or a commercial fishing area), and
- Sensitive shorelines (such as coral reefs).
On ESI maps, colors and icons are used to mark the sensitive areas along the shoreline. During an oil spill, these maps can be used to prioritize and protect the shoreline environment. |
ESI maps are available in a variety of formats (including MARPLOT maps) on regional ESI CD/DVDs. To use the MARPLOT ESI maps, you need an ESI Viewer, which will allow you to view, print, and run simple searches on ESI data for a specific region.
