Crosscutting Technologies
Through crosscutting technologies, ITP conducts R&D to improve efficiency of technologies that are common to many industrial processes and can benefit multiple industries. Because of the widespread application of these crosscutting systems, even small improvements in their efficiency can yield large energy savings.
Learn about ITP's crosscutting technologies R&D efforts.
CombustionThrough selective cost-shared R&D projects, ITP and industry partners work together toward improved combustion system performance in U.S. manufacturing facilities, while promoting industrial productivity and growth. Distributed EnergyITP's Industrial Distributed Energy activities help resolve barriers and accelerate the deployment of CHP technologies in industry, which offers the potential for increased energy savings, reliability, and power quality. Energy Intensive ProcessesEnergy Intensive Processes activities address specific technology platforms and focus areas that are expected to reduce industrial energy intensity in industrial reactions and separation, high-temperature processing, waste heat recovery, and sustainable manufacturing. Fuel and Feedstock FlexibilityITP's Fuel and Feedstock Flexibility subprogram focuses on various methods to reduce natural gas use in industrial applications, including research to develop fuel flexible hardware, and demonstration of fuel flexible technologies. |
Industrial Materials for the FutureThis ITP activity conducts R&D to develop and test new advanced industrial materials and material processing methods that will improve the energy efficiency and extend the lifetime of new technologies. NanomanufacturingITP's Nanomanufacturing activities will promote the research, development, and deployment of technologies to produce nanomaterials that can be utilized in energy intensive manufacturing processes. Sensors and AutomationIn this research area, ITP works with industry to develop and deliver robust, integrated measurement devices and intelligent control technology solutions that will have broad applicability across multiple industries. |
