Portland Ranks High in Public Transportation Use
Census Briefing Highlights City’s Social, Economic and Housing Data
Did you know that Portland has one of the highest rates of bicycle commuters — about eight times the national average? That its public transportation use is more than twice the national average?
These and other topics about the demographics of the city will be the subject of a joint news conference hosted by Portland Mayor Tom Potter and U.S. Census Bureau Director Louis Kincannon — who will highlight the latest data for Portland from the American Community Survey. Portland State University’s Population Research Center and the Multnomah County Progress Board will make additional presentations.
The American Community Survey, an annual survey
that replaces the once-a-decade long form included with the decennial census,
helps local planners make better-informed decisions by providing timely, up-to-date
information about how communities are changing.
