Public service advertising is used by thousands of media organizations at the local,
regional and national level.
OSHA’s Spanish-language video and audio PSAs, including the announcements featuring
Giovanni Savarese, Rey Mysterio and Orlando Cepeda and the announcements focusing on
hurricane response and recovery, are useful tools that can assist in outreach to
Spanish-speaking employees in the United States.
Promotion is critical to the success of a PSA outreach campaign and there are many ways
to use the Agency’s PSAs. For example:
- Download the PSAs to your computer and burn them to a CD-ROM for distribution to
the local community, including Hispanic employers, television and radio stations and
community- and faith-based organizations.
- Identify local television and radio stations that reach Hispanics and work with
them to air the PSAs at no cost.
- Develop a PSA "Pitch Kit" for local media. The kit should include the PSAs, the
Bureau of Labor
Statistics’ Hispanic worker fatality data and talking
points emphasizing the importance of occupational safety and health.
- Engage community partners such as Hispanic employers, community and faith-based
organizations, Consulates and OSHA’s Regional and Area Offices to promote and air the
PSAs.
- Develop a one-page flyer using the PSA scripts and distribute them at local
Hispanic outreach events such as Hispanic safety and health fairs.
- Insert the PSAs into slide presentations focusing on Hispanic outreach and into
training materials for Hispanic employers and employees.
- Share PSA outreach successes with community partners, OSHA and others.
