Information for Selected Schools

If your school is participating in NAEP, the following links will direct you to helpful information. If you still have questions, you can get answers through MySchool website, by e-mail, or by telephone.

School Selection and Participation

The accurate and representative results produced by the NAEP assessments depend upon the enthusiastic participation of selected districts, schools, and classrooms.

NAEP in Your School

NAEP works to ensure that participating in the assessment entails as little difficulty for individual participants as possible by using a comprehensive administration system and providing a full complement of informational material about the assessment and its goals.

  • View fact sheets developed to address questions about NAEP for educators at all levels.
  • Watch 5-minute videos for teachers of fourth- and eighth-graders and twelfth-graders that offer helpful information about NAEP for educators and parents alike.
  • Students do not need any special preparation for NAEP, other than understanding the importance of their participation. Please share this 3-minute video for students with your class.
  • Learn how the NAEP administration process ensures that the assessment will not overburden participating teachers or schools.
  • An Introduction to NAEP (1123K PDF) provides a thorough introduction to the NAEP program and explains what participation in the NAEP assessment will mean for you and your students.

About NAEP Assessments

The links below will demonstrate how both the NAEP assessment itself and the results it produces can play a role in the classroom.

  • Sample Questions Booklets will familiarize students and their parents with the assessment structure, types of subject-area questions asked, student background questions, and the NAEP Questions Tool.
  • To learn more about the information NAEP is required to collect for the purposes of federal educational research, take a look at the background questionnaires for principals, teachers, and students.
