Capulin Volcano National Monument
For Teachers

We welcome educational visits for students of all ages at Capulin Volcano.

All K-12 educational groups are required to attend a 15-minute orientation talk by a ranger at the Visitor Center upon arrival to the monument. This program promotes the safety and well being of your students and the monument's natural resources. The talk will include safety information, proper park visit etiquette, and a brief introduction to the volcano and the history of Capulin Volcano National Monument.

Rangers may be available for guided activities or walks for small groups.  Please contact the monument for specific program requests.

University groups are welcome and may request the orientation talk.

All educational groups should contact the monument as early as possible before their visit to ensure availability of a ranger for the orientation talk or other programs.Call at 505-278-2201 ext. 231 or email us.

Entrance fee waiver applications are available on the Plan A Field Trip page.

Teacher-Ranger-Teacher Program

Would you like to work in a national park for 8 weeks in the summer? Become a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher to learn about the National Park Service and national parks and take the experience back to your classroom.

The Teacher to Ranger to Teacher (TRT) program focuses on the education community and engages teachers from under-served schools that are not currently being reached with park programs.

Teacher-rangers work in parks to learn about natural, cultural and historic resources. Teachers then use this knowledge and experience in their classrooms and schools.

Click here for more information about this program. For information about working at Capulin Volcano as a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher contact the park at 575-278-2201 or email us.
