Search Hints for the Regional Archives
Would you like to find records held at a specific National Archives location? Maybe you are planning a research visit to one of our Regional Archives , or you found some interesting items online in a Region's exhibit, and you would like to find more information online.
The Archival Research Catalog (ARC) includes descriptions of records held by the Regional Archives. The online catalog allows you to filter your search results by location.

How to Filter for a Single Location with Keywords
Type your keywords into the box and select any location from the filter list. In the example below, we searched for records related to Indian Affairs held by NARA's Central Plains Region in Kansas City, Missouri.
- Press the Yellow Search button in the upper left corner of this page to go to the Basic search screen.
- Type the words Indian Affairs in the Keywords box.
- Select the limit results radio button for 2000.
- Select the locations filter marked NARA's Central Plains Region (Kansas City).
- Press the Go button.
- When hits are returned for your search, view the full result of your hit by selecting the Title link.

How to Filter for Multiple Locations with Keywords
Type your keywords into the box and hold down the Control Key (the Ctrl key in the bottom left corner of your keyboard) while you click multiple locations. In the example below, we searched for District Court records located at NARA's regions in Boston, New York City, and Seattle.
- Press the Yellow Search button in the upper left corner of this page to go to the Basic search screen.
- Type the words District Court in the Keywords box.
- Select the limit results radio button for 2000.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and select NARA's Northeast Region (Boston), NARA's Northeast Region (New York City), and NARA's Pacific Alaska Region (Seattle) from the Location of Archival Materials list.
- Press the Go button.
- When hits are returned for your search, view the full result of your hit by selecting the Title link.
