WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (CA-05) announced a $142,985 grant from the National Park Service that has been awarded to the City of Sacramento for improvements to the city’s Southside Park. As part of an overall effort by federal, state and local agencies to redevelop and improve our nation’s parks, this grant will help renovate Southside Park’s group picnic area and contribute to the city’s master plan to redevelop the park. "I am pleased that the National Park Service has committed funds to help improve Southside Park. With these funds, the city will be able to renovate the picnic area of one of Sacramento’s oldest and most used parks," said Rep. Matsui. "This is just one part of a master to plan to redevelop the park into a place that families will be able to enjoy for years to come." "I am grateful for Congressmember Matsui's help in the award of funding for the group picnic area in Southside Park," said Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo. "This wonderful urban refuge is a well used park serving a very diverse neighborhood that loves Southside Park. The renovated group picnic area will add to the amenities Southside Park provides for neighbors and visitors alike." Located at 2115 6th Street, Southside Park encompasses 19.9 acres and offers basketball courts, tennis courts, a swimming pool, two children’s play area, a community center, a .75 mile jogging and fitness course, and seven picnic areas.### |
