Spring 2008 Genealogy Workshops at
the National Archives Northeast Region -
New York City

The National Archives - Northeast Region offers free workshops to help you research your family history. In our Spring 2008 workshops, we will highlight National Archives online resources, microfilm holdings, and military records. We will also have guest lecturer Art Sniffin present on New York historical repositories and the variety of family history sources they can offer. These workshops are part of our lunchtime brown bag series, so please feel free to bring your lunch. All programs are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, March 11
Finding Family: Using NARA's Online Databases
This workshop will focus on NARA's online resources including the Archival Research Catalog (ARC), our online catalog of nationwide holdings, and Access to Archival Databases (AAD), which provides access to a selection of databases covering immigration and military records and more. We will also discuss other online resources including Ancestry and Footnote.

Finding Family: Using Microfilm Holdings of NARA-NY
Learn more about the microfilm holdings of the National Archives New York office. We will discuss the microfilm series available in our Reference Room and what can be accessed through Ancestry and Footnote. We will also look at NARA's online Microfilm Catalog.

Tuesday, May 13
Finding Family: Using Military Records Online
Military records can be valuable resources in personal and genealogical research. We will discuss what records, from photos to documents to searchable databases, are available online. We will also discuss how to order original records online.

Tuesday, June 10
Finding Family: Hidden Treasures in New York Repositories
The New York Historical Resource Center at Cornell University has inventoried the holdings of more than 1,700 historical records repositories. Genealogy expert and retired archivist Art Sniffin, our guest lecturer, will review these collections.

All workshops are from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Workshops are free but space is limited, so please call, fax, or e-mail to register. Please contact us with any questions.
