Release DEA Administrator Karen P. Tandy Statement on New Steroids Education Partnership Steroids don’t enhance potential—they steal it—and far too many lives have been destroyed seeking a shortcut to hard-earned victory. Steroid abuse is a growing concern to parents, children, sports institutions, and to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). DEA is especially pleased to join with these partners to educate the public about the physical dangers and criminal penalties from using steroids, in addition to DEA’s mission to enforce the law against the traffickers of these substances. Today’s announcement that Major League Baseball is providing the Taylor Hooton Foundation with funding for steroids education is encouraging. DEA is working with the Foundation and other organizations, including MLB’s strength and conditioning coaches, to get the truth out on steroids. In the coming months, DEA Agents will be working with the MLB conditioning coaches in cities across America to provide young athletes with information on the consequences of steroid abuse. This is an important partnership. We will also be working with parents who have experienced the tragic loss of children from steroids. Their stories are a call to action as we work to take steroids out of locker rooms. |
