Disaster Recovery Center To Close At The Detroit City Airport

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Federal and state officials announced today that the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) operating at the Detroit City Airport, 11499 Conner St. will close at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2004.
The DRC will remain open until August 20 with extended hours to better serve those who want to meet face-to-face with disaster assistance experts or those who may need SBA information or help with their SBA loan applications. Hours are now 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Mon. – Fri. and Sat. from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Monday through Friday hours will be extended to 7 p.m. beginning on Monday, August 9.
“We hope that by extending our weekday hours to 7 p.m., we will accommodate those who need additional disaster assistance information,” said Marianne C. Jackson, head of the federal recovery effort. “Even though the center may be closing, those who want to check on the status of their application can continue to call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s toll-free number for information.”
Operators at the FEMA toll-free number (1-800-621-FEMA or TTY 1-800-462-7585 ) are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday to help with questions. Victims who have questions about their U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan who cannot visit a DRC can call the SBA helpline at 1-800-359-2227. The deadline to apply for disaster assistance is August 30.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA’s continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
