Release [print-friendly version] 60,000 Glassine Bags of Heroin Seized in Westchester
NOV 28 – John P. Gilbride, Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge and Janet DiFiore, Westchester County District Attorney announced the arrests of eight individuals and seizure of twenty kilograms of glassine bags filled with heroin. The arrests and seizure were a result of a joint drug investigation involving the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the New York Police Department (NYPD), the New York State Police (NYSP) and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, joint Westchester District Attorney Narcotics Initiative (W-DANI). “This seizure is indicative of good old fashioned police work. The united goal of drug law enforcement is to identify and arrest those who profit millions of dollars via the sale of drugs. This investigation resulted in shutting down this drug organization that would have distributed over 60,000 hits of heroin to the streets of Westchester. 60,000 less hits of heroin will be used today” stated SAC John Gilbride. Mr. Gilbride commended the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force and the Westchester District Attorney’s Office for their diligent work on this investigation. Angel Thevenin (DOB 7/02/62) of 1511 Cooper Avenue, Queens, New York was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree, a Class "A-1" Felony, Americo W. Martinez (DOB 2/5/60), Bienvenido Matos-Lopez (DOB 4/24/75), Jose E. Martinez (DOB 4/6/75) and Nelvyn Severino (DOB 9/26/85) all of 1774 Townsend Avenue, The Bronx, New York, Wilson M. Nunez (DOB 2/4/63) of 2487 Davidson Avenue, The Bronx, New York, Adalgisa Baez (DOB 1/22/61) of 345 Grove Street, Brooklyn, New York and Juan Rivera-Escalante (DOB 11/4/73) of 1561 East Metropolitan Avenue, The Bronx, New York all were charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class "B" Felony. At approximately 9:30 p.m., on November 27th, Angel Thevenin exited a residence located at 25 Lytton Avenue in Hartsdale, New York. He entered a Volkswagen Passat and was followed to 1580 Pelham Parkway in The Bronx, at which time he retrieved a plastic bag from the trunk of the car. Law enforcement officers arrested Thevenin at that location and recovered two boxes containing approximately 60,000 individually packaged glassines of heroin. Approximately forty-five minutes later, seven individuals made a hasty exit from 25 Lytton Avenue in a Honda Minivan that was stopped by law enforcement two blocks from the house. A search warrant was executed and an additional ounce of heroin was recovered inside the house. One bedroom was dedicated for the packaging of the heroin. In the bedroom and in the basement police found boxes that had contained thousands of empty glassines envelopes, ten respirator masks, cutting agents and over 20 cylinders used to mix, cut and grind heroin. The basement was also used to store the by-products of the heroin operation, likely for dumping at another location. The home had a security system that included cameras at all four corners of the house. It is estimated that the street value of the seized heroin is $1,000,000.00 All the defendants were remanded to the Westchester County Jail. Assistant District Attorney Tom Luzio, Chief of the Narcotics Bureau, will prosecute the case.
