Chicago Field Division to Host Fentanyl Coordination
and Strategy Conference

(Chicago, IL) The DEA's Chicago Field Division will host a Chicago Fentanyl Coordination
and Strategy Conference, June 14th and 15th at 230 S. Dearborn, Chicago, Illinois.

The meetings associated with this strategy session are closed to the media; however a press
conference will take place at 2:00 p.m. on June 15th at the South Dearborn address. All
credentialed media interested in attending the press conference need to register by calling
Christopher Hoyt at (312)-353-7875.

The purpose of this conference is to coordinate worldwide investigative efforts aimed at identifying and dismantling the drug trafficking organizations responsible for the diversion, illicit production, and/or distribution of fentanyl. In addition, a comprehensive strategy to
address this problem will be developed.

Topics will include: pharmacology of fentanyl, heroin, and other related drugs; fentanyl
diversion; illicit manufacture; precursor chemical control; international licit and illicit production;
importation and transportation methods; local strategies for targeting suspected fentanyl sales
locations and working to identify sources of supply; local protocols for addressing outbreaks of
overdoses and deaths; Narcan (naloxone); obtaining and analyzing data from medical examiners
and hospitals.

Representatives from California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mexico, Michigan, Missouri,
New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, the Office of National
Drug Control Policy and the Center for Disease Control will be in attendance.
