In 2003, 2004, and 2007, U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao hosted national Opportunity Conferences in Washington, D.C. In 2005, Secretary Chao hosted the regional Opportunity Conference in Chicago. The 2006 Opportunity Conference was held in Philadelphia. In 2008, the Opportunity Conference will be held in Orlando on October 23.
Celebrating the contributions of the region's Asian Pacific, Hispanic and African American communities, the Opportunity Conference will emphasize key components of economic development and working with federal, state, and local government. Workshop topics will include access to capital, job training, financial literacy, understanding federal procurement opportunities, addressing the needs of workers with limited English proficiency and accessing faith-based and community grants.
