WASHINGTON -- The Maritime Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH) will hold an open meeting in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 15-16, 2003. The meeting will be held at the Department of Labor Building, 200 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20210. The committee will meet from 9-5 p.m. on Wed., Oct.15 in Room N-3437 A-C and reconvene from 8:30- 2 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 16 in room C-5320 Room 6. Committee members will discuss the role of the advisory committee and its goals, OSHA's standard setting activities, industry hazards, as well as organizational and administrative matters. MACOSH was established by authority in Section 7 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to advise the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health on issues relating to occupational safety and health for workers involved in the shipbuilding, ship breaking, ship repair, and long shoring in the maritime industries. Written comments and requests to make oral presentations may be submitted by Oct. 9 to the Office of Maritime, OSHA, US Department of Labor, Room N-3609, 200 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington D.C., 20210. Presentation requests should specify the amount of time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear, and an outline of the presentation. Requests to speak may be granted as time permits. Individuals with disabilities wishing to attend the meeting and who require special accommodations should contact Vanessa L. Welch (202) 693-2080 no later than Oct. 6. Notice of the MACOSH meeting is expected to appear in the Sept. 30 Federal Register. OSHA is dedicated to assuring worker safety and health.
