U.S. Labor Department's OSHA invites Rhode Island small and mid-size businesses to safety and health workshop in Newport on September 10
Workshop will highlight free consultation service offered by state, funded by federal agency

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Small and medium size employers in Rhode Island are invited to a breakfast workshop to learn about a free workplace safety and health consultation service offered by the state of Rhode Island.

The workshop will be held September 10 from 9 a.m. to noon EDT at the Newport Marriott Hotel, 25 America's Cup Ave., Newport, R.I. There is no charge to attend, but advance registration is requested and can be made through the Rhode Island Division of Workers Compensation Education Unit.

The ongoing service is being funded by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and administered through the Rhode Island Department of Health. The workshop will be conducted by OSHA and the Rhode Island Division of Workers Compensation Education Unit.

The service offers Ocean State employers confidential, voluntary safety and health audits; suggested approaches and options for solving safety and health problems; assistance in developing and maintaining effective safety and health programs; and training and education for employers and employees.

"Using this free consultation service is one of the best investments an employer can make," said Marthe Kent, OSHA's regional administrator for New England. "Identifying and eliminating workplace hazards can save lives, reduce costs and increase productivity."

The workshop will include seminars on fire safety and occupational asthma, testimonials from Ocean State employers who have used the consultation service and comments from a company participating in OSHA's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program.

Additional information about the consultation program is available at www.health.ri.gov/environment/occupational/consultation.php
