August 4, 2008 - Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement after Robert Novak announced his retirement after being diagnosed with a brain tumor:
“America has had no better political journalist than Bob Novak for the last half century. The news of his illness is incredibly saddening and the end his column will be felt for years. Nobody knows Washington better than Bob Novak. From the beginning of his career he has provided a window into the back room dealings of Washington as well as into the decision making at the highest levels of power. In so doing he has performed a valuable service to the nation. Over the course of his years as a reporter he moved ideologically to the right. But unlike most journalists today, Bob Novak has always been straightforward with his readers about his political bent and in doing so earned the public's trust. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”
