Fifty-Nine Hoover Schools

Herbert Hoover once remarked that he could receive no greater honor than to have a school named for him. Throughout his long and distinguished career Herbert Hoover received that high honor 59 times.

In recognition of this remarkable achievement, the 59 Hoover Schools across the nation contributed their T-shirts and sweatshirts that form two spectacular wall quilts created by fabric artist and seamstress Joyce Harken of Mount Vernon, Iowa. These quilts have been hung in the rotunda of the Hoover Presidential Library-Museum.

Look closely at the quilts and you will see Huskies, Hawks, Hurricanes, Hounds, Hornets, and Highlanders.

These schools are spread across America from Massachusetts to California, and many states in between. The school farthest east is in Melrose, Massachusetts; the school farthest west is in San Francisco, California; to the north it is in Yakima, Washington, and to the south it is in Indialantic, Florida. Hoover schools are coast to coast!
