Issue: Condoms were supplied free of cost for ages adopting Social Marketing of condoms An experience in developing new fully prized condom outlets Methodology: To substained the fully condom supply, we Indian Community Welfare Organisation approached different condom manufacturing companies and worked with them on the field set-up A social Worker from our organisation did an assessment and identified number of shops who don't stock and sell condoms or in some case never stocked or sold condoms at all before The assessment shows only 7 shops out of 420 establishments at Mamallapuram sell condoms after working with the professional manufacturing companies for one year The following were achieved before the implementation of a programme titled "Operation Clean Sweep" Periodical visits were made by our Social workers (i e) every fortnight once to retailers After one year the Social workers introduced themselves as a Social worker from a local NGO and explained about the importance of stocking and selling condoms and its dual role Result: After an effective attempt to identify, stock and sell condoms for one year The project were achieved in terms of making 37 new fully prized condom outlets and able to sell condoms for 2,000 to 2,400 every month Before one year in the same area all the outleters put together (i e) 7 outleters, sold only condoms worth of Rs 600/- to Rs 700/- per month Conclusion: After making this attempt for one year our Social worker slowly withdrawn and the representatives from the professional manufacturing companies took over as per our plan The newly entered professional condom manufacturing agency were successful in stocking and selling condoms through these newly developed condom outlets and confident of substaining their activity
