Grants.gov Downtime Memorial Day Weekend

In case you needed one more reason to just relax and enjoy the holiday weekend…Grants.gov recently posted the following alert on their website:

Grants.gov System Scheduled Maintenance
Grants.gov will be unavailable from May 26, 2007 through May 27, 2007 to complete upgrades to the infrastructure. We thank you for your patience as we complete system upgrades to ensure optimum performance and risk mitigation. The site will be live Monday, May 28, 2007. For continued updates, please refer to the "What’s New This Week at Grants.gov" section on the homepage.  http://www.grants.gov/aboutgrants/technical_alerts.jsp

To you diehards out there…remember that one of the nice aspects of the Grants.gov solution is that you only need to be online with Grants.gov to download an application package or to submit your application. All the good stuff in the middle can be done offline.

Reminder: Holidays and Application Viewing Window

Once all system-identified errors are corrected and an error-free application is processed by NIH, the application image is assembled and placed in the eRA Commons for viewing by the Principal Investigator (PI), Signing Official (SO) and now Assistants (ASSTs) that have been delegated PI status. If no action is taken by the SO to Reject the application, it will automatically move forward to the Division of Receipt and Referral after two full weekdays (Monday-Friday, including holidays). So, if the application image is assembled on Thursday, May 24, applicants have all day Friday, May 25, and Monday, May 28 to view the application in the eRA Commons. On Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) at midnight Eastern Time the application will move forward.

The inclusion of holidays in the viewing window will be of even greater concern for applicants to the July 5 submission deadline for R01 renewals, resubmissions, and revisions, since the deadline is the day after the July 4 holiday. Although no changes can be made to exempt the July 4 holiday from the viewing window this year, we are exploring that option for the future. In the meantime, please plan accordingly.

Take care,
