Family to Family Health Information and Education Centers

Since 2002, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)/Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), has awarded grants to establish and enhance Family to Family Health Information and Education Centers in 37 states. The purpose of these grants is to support the development of comprehensive health information centers providing families of Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) with information about health care and health care financing. Non-profit organizations were awarded grants to establish statewide family-run centers. Of these 37 Family-to-Family Health Care Information and Education Centers (F2FHIC) grantees, one in each state – 29 were funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and 8 funded by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

In May 2007, HRSA announced the award of 30 additional grants worth $2.9 million to support new and continued Family to Family Health Information and Education Centers. For more information on these awards, see the HRSA link below.
