Issue: AIDS support NGO (NUS) established a slum based service for the urban poor illiterate people to prevent HIV/AIDS and to care STD. Objective: The objective of the initiative was to enhance the community awareness of HIV/AIDS and capacity building for the slum people to prevent HIV/AIDS and STD care. Methods: Total 60 slum women and men trained by 13 Start of NUS as AIDS workers. NUS sorted out 40 slums where performed Drama and Cultural Functions on AIDS prevention in the slum space. After that we invite audience for groups discussion in different slum rooms. Through group discussion NUS try to evaluation the target people. Through different questions and answers NUS make rapport with them and continue weekly group discussions on different issues related to STD/AIDS and gender. After then Health Educator of NUS conduct one to one discussions & condom demonstration and distribution. NUS started income generation program among the women's group to increase negotiation skill regarding safer sex practice. NUS trained 60 Peer Educators those organize group discussions with the slum male and female, distribute condom and select local artists for cultural presentations those are being performed with the participation of slum people. Result: According to needs assessment report it was observed that 98% community people ware ignorant about HIV/AIDS. 1% only was using condom. 50% male and 36% female have multiple sex partners among two hundred samples. After that NUS started AIDS Prevention activities among 3000 families and now 33% couples are using condom. 98% people informed about preventive measures, dealing with HIV positive persons and referral facilities.
