Joint Effort to Improve IAQ in Buildings

EPA is collaborating with leading professional organizations to provide advanced indoor air quality (IAQ) design guidance for the building industry. Initiated through an EPA - funded cooperative agreement with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and formalized with a memorandum of understanding, this collaboration includes ASHRAE, EPA, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International, the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association (SMACNA), and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This collaboration includes the development of a book and a professional development course on an integrated process for achieving improved IAQ in all elements of a building which are expected to be available in 2009.

IAQ TfS Awards Program Showcases Award Winners

Since 2000, the Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools (IAQ TfS) Program has recognized over 100 schools and school districts for their accomplishments in creating a safe and healthy learning environment and maintaining good IAQ in their facilities. To showcase these outstanding schools, EPA highlights schools and school districts in each state who have received recognition for implementing good IAQ management practices. Visit epa.gov/iaq/schools/iaqtfsawards.html, and click on your state to see who has won an award. You may even have an opportunity to be the first award winner in your state!  Whether you are just beginning your IAQ program or you have had procedures in place for years, we encourage you to apply for an award today.
