Corpus Christi, TX -- Beginning Sunday, August 10, 2003, Disaster Recovery Centers will be closed on Sundays.
After individuals and business owners register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), they can still visit the centers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. To date, more than 1,600 people have visited the centers that have been opened throughout the disaster-declared area.
Whether it is a need for temporary housing assistance, lost wages, crisis counseling or help in replacing lost documents or any other unmet need, applicants can sit down face to face with experts who understand and can provide answers to questions and provide recovery information about assistance programs.
Individuals in Atascosa, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, DeWitt, Frio, Galveston, Goliad, Jackson, Karnes, Live Oak, Matagorda, McMullen, Refugio, Victoria, San Patricio and Zavala counties who have been affected by Hurricane Claudette may register by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing or speech impaired. Anyone with questions about FEMA programs or the status of their applications may call the same number for answers.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
