An update on issues important to
Idaho, the West, and our Nation
from U.S. Senator Larry Craig

craig.senate.gov/ enews February 22, 2008 Volume VII, Number 4

Leadership.
Experience.
Commitment.

Thanks to the President's Day recess, I spent this week home in Idaho, traveling and talking to Idahoans. It has been a good opportunity to visit with my constituents about what has been going on in the Senate, update them on my legislative priorities and talk about current events in general—and what an eventful week it has been!

When Congress returns on February 25, we will face the realities of a changing world: an independent Kosovo, a new dictator in Cuba and a government in transition in Pakistan.

Idaho is constantly changing as well—but in positive ways. It's one of the fastest growing states in the Nation, for instance. To help these newer residents (or people with a newfound interest in politics) learn about work on behalf of Idaho in the U.S. Senate, I posted an informative, one page brochure [pdf, 184kb] to my website that encapsulates my views and actions on important Idaho issues.

My biweekly video digest features highlights of recent legislative activities with insights into what lies ahead on the agenda.

In the most recent update:

Senate expands the government's spying powers in modified Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, but immunity for telecommunication companies is still unresolved issue at the House. Committees begin to review President's budget requests.

I do not accept this half-hearted attempt by the city of Berkeley to save itself from the consequences of its actions against our military.

Goal One: Deliver timely, high quality constituent service

From my very first day in Congress, Idahoans have been asking for help with problems they have with the federal government and its agencies, and they have been getting that help.

Increasingly, citizens can help themselves by accessing the tools and resources many agencies provide online. My Agency Assistant below offers guidance to some of these online resources, and briefly describes how to resolve the most common problems. While your problem may seem far from "common," if you need help with a federal agency, I encourage you to start with the Agency Assistant.

If you have questions or problems you can't resolve on your own, I have specialists on my staff that are trained, competent, dedicated, and authorized to act in my name in dealing with federal agencies. Call or stop by my nearest regional office to discuss your problem with a casework specialist confidentially.
