#994Adobe Photoshop for Scientists
 
Description:
Abobe Photoshop has many uses at the NIH including preparation of materials for publication. This seminar will cover Photoshop basics and explore specific Photoshop features that may be helpful for the bench scientist. This course is given as a "hands on" session and example images will be used to demonstrate techniques.

Objectives:
Students will learn about:
  • Electronic image basics
  • Using layers to manage visual information
  • Performing non-destructive image editing and maintaining an audit trail
  • Qualitative image analysis tools available in Photoshop
  • Applying text labels, notation, and vector shapes to images
  • Creating/Sharing scripts for automation of Photoshop steps
  • The ethics related to scientific image manipulation
  • Tools for refining images/correcting image flaws for educational (non-publication) purposes
Who should attend:
NIH staff that work with image data. The course is designed with new users in mind, but seasoned Photoshop users that wish to review features are also welcome. This course is the companion to the course Creating Publication Quality Graphics with Adobe Illustrator given on 4/23.
