Break the Code

Codes have been used throughout history whenever people wanted to keep messages private. In American history, George Washington sent coded messages to his agents, and the Culper Spy ring used codes to communicate with each other. Members of the Continental Congress also encoded their documents. Read about the Enigma decoding machine and the role it played in World War II.

If you're up to the challenge, try to decode the following messages. Read the directions carefully and bust those codes! After decoding each message, click on the "Verify Code" button to see if you were successful.
