Florida Atlantic University Becomes the First South Florida College/University To Become StormReady!

Presentation of StormReady Sign at FAU

From left to right: FAU Emergency Management Coordinator Sharlene Sookhoo, FAU Vice President of Division of Facilities Tom Donaudy, and WFO Miami WCM Rob Molleda.

On Wednesday, July 16, 2008, the StormReady recognition ceremony and sign presentation was held at the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) main campus in Boca Raton. The presentation was held in the Emergency Operations Center at the Campus Operations Building.

FAU is the first college/university in South Florida to attain StormReady recognition by the National Weather Service, and only the fourth in the entire state of Florida. This is indeed a special distinction and one that WFO Miami is very proud of. The staff at FAU has done an outstanding job of fulfilling all of the StormReady program requirements, and the FAU community can be assured that their university is very well equipped and prepared to meet the challenges from any weather threat.

Collier and Miami-Dade Counties Have Successfully Renewed Their StormReady Status.

Collier and Miami-Dade counties are the first South Florida counties to have been fully re-recognized as StormReady for the period from 2008-2011. Congratulations to the Emergency Management staffs of both counties for their hard work and dedication in meeting this task. Glades County will be renewing their status in the coming weeks, with Hendry, Broward and Palm Beach counties up for renewal in 2009.
