Van Zandt County Fugitive Arrested in Tyler

Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force LogoForty-one year old JD Todd of Ben Wheeler, Texas was arrested today in Tyler at 3121 Highway 155. Todd was wanted by Van Zandt County authorities for Criminal Attempt/Indecency with a Child (3rd Degree Felony) and Improper Photo/Visual Recording of a Child (State Jail Felony). Mr. Todd was booked into the Smith County Jail at 12:00 p.m. today.

On Tuesday, January 8, 2008 Van Zandt County authorities contacted the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force and explained that Todd had found out that a warrant had been issued for him and Todd fled the county. Van Zandt County requested assistance from the Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force (sponsored by the U.S. Marshals Service) in locating Todd. After two days of running down information to include an interview in Oklahoma, today, information was received that Todd was in Tyler; his vehicle was identified, and Deputy U.S. Marshals and Tyler Police Officers surrounded the home Todd was believed to be in, called Todd out of the home, and arrested him without incident. Todd is awaiting extradition to Van Zandt County to face his charges.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.

The Joint East Texas Fugitive Apprehension Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from 56 law enforcement agencies in the East Texas area. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest federal, state, and local fugitives, mainly those with violent criminal histories to include sex offenders. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
