A major fugitive wanted on outstanding
state charges for attempted premeditated first degree murder has
been arrested by a team of Deputy U.S. Marshals and officers from
the Miami Beach Police Department in Miami Beach, Florida.
Michael Ipsan was being sought on a
warrant issued in Miami-Dade County charging him with attempted
premeditated first degree murder. Michael Ipsan is accused of
shooting his girlfriend numerous times with a .357 revolver that was
reported stolen in 1998. He is also a suspect in an armed carjacking
which also occurred in Miami Beach, Florida.
On the early morning hours of
December 6, 2007, Deputy U.S. Marshals and officers from the Miami
Beach Police Department arrested Michael Ipsan without incident on
Southwest 9th Street in the Brickell area of downtown Miami as he
walked to work at a construction site. Ipsan had been a fugitive for
over 3 years and consistently remained on the Miami Beach Police
Department’s most wanted fugitive list. Ipsan is currently being
held in the Dade County Jail pending his initial appearance in
court.
Annually, investigations carried out
by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately
34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by
Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
