Major Violent Fugitive Captured

A major fugitive wanted on outstanding state charges for attempted premeditated first degree murder has been arrested by a team of Deputy U.S. Marshals and officers from the Miami Beach Police Department in Miami Beach, Florida.

Michael Ipsan was being sought on a warrant issued in Miami-Dade County charging him with attempted premeditated first degree murder. Michael Ipsan is accused of shooting his girlfriend numerous times with a .357 revolver that was reported stolen in 1998. He is also a suspect in an armed carjacking which also occurred in Miami Beach, Florida.

On the early morning hours of December 6, 2007, Deputy U.S. Marshals and officers from the Miami Beach Police Department arrested Michael Ipsan without incident on Southwest 9th Street in the Brickell area of downtown Miami as he walked to work at a construction site. Ipsan had been a fugitive for over 3 years and consistently remained on the Miami Beach Police Department’s most wanted fugitive list. Ipsan is currently being held in the Dade County Jail pending his initial appearance in court.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
