Arrest of Fugitive Rashaan Taylor |

On Tuesday, December 4, 2007, U.S.
Marshals arrested Rashaan Taylor who was wanted by the Little Rock
Police Department on a warrant issued on November 26, 2007 for the
robbery, kidnapping and shooting at a local Wal-Mart shopping
center. Rashaan Taylor was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Herrin,
Illinois. Also assisting in the arrest were law enforcement officers
from the Illinois State Police, Herrin Police Department and
Williamson County Sheriffs office.
The U.S. Marshals Service in Little Rock, Arkansas created the
Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force on August 2, 2007. The purpose
of the Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force is to assist state and
local law enforcement with apprehending state and local fugitives
who flee the state of Arkansas. The Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task
Force consists of deputy U.S. Marshals and deputies with the Pulaski
County Sheriffs Office. On Friday, November, 30, 2007 the Little
Rock Police department requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals
through the Eastern Arkansas Fugitive Task Force. The Eastern
Arkansas Fugitive Task Force sent a lead request to the Great Lakes
Regional Fugitive Task Force in Chicago, Illinois to assist in
locating fugitive Rashaan Taylor.
On Tuesday, December 4, 2007 Rashaan Taylor was located at a
residence in Herrin, Illinois. When U.S. Marshals and law
enforcement officers went to the residence, Taylor came to the door
and shut the door before officers could effect the arrest,
barricading himself in the residence. Assistance from the Illinois
State Police, Herrin Police Department, and the Williamson County
Sheriffs office canine unit were requested. Rashaan Taylor
surrendered within 30 minutes of barricading himself inside the
residence.
Rashaan Taylor was booked into the Williamson County Jail in Marion,
Illinois on the Little Rock, Arkansas and will undergo normal state
to state extradition procedures to return him to Little Rock. There
are no federal charges pending against Rashaan Taylor at this time. |
