Louisiana's Nelson Youngblood a "15 Most Wanted" Fugitive on Halloween,
Prisoner by Thanksgiving

Washington, DC – Less than one month after being named one of the U.S. Marshal’s 15 Most Wanted, fugitive Nelson “Boo” Youngblood is now behind bars thanks to a relentless law enforcement effort that spanned state lines.

With the help of federal and state authorities from Louisiana and Texas, Youngblood was located and arrested in Pearland, Texas, right outside of Houston on November 24 at approximately 3 p.m. by the U.S. Marshals-led Gulf Coast Violent Offender and Fugitive Task Force.

“Time is almost always on law enforcement’s side,” said U.S. Marshal William R. Whittington of the Western District of Louisiana. “Our deputy marshals and our state and local partners were persistent and it was only a matter of time Mr. Youngblood’s mistakes on the run would lead to his arrest.”

Youngblood, 37, was charged with the brutal murder of Keisha Avery, 35, on May 19, 2007 in Shreveport, LA. Police believe that Youngblood was engaged in a drug rip-off and fired several shots from an assault rifle which struck the victim, who later died at the hospital. It was just the latest offense against the community by Youngblood, who is a career criminal with a violent past. His prior criminal offenses include attempted murder, aggravated robbery, arson, burglary, distribution of cocaine, and money laundering. Youngblood is considered to be a major distributor of drugs along the corridor between Shreveport, LA and Houston, Texas.

He was also wanted by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections for violating his parole, due to his engagement in criminal activity while on parole from a previous prison sentence. Youngblood was also being sought by the Panola County Sheriff’s Department in Carthage, Texas, for failure to appear on money laundering charges.

Nelson Youngblood is now in custody in a Harris County jail in Houston awaiting extradition.

Agencies that contributed to the successful arrest of Youngblood include the Louisiana Probation & Parole, Shreveport Police Department, Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Pearland Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals.
