Laverne

Hi, my name is Laverne. I am a yellow Lab and I weigh about 57 pounds. I was born in Cape Cod, Mass., on Dec. 13, 2005.

I left GEB and went to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). I spent six weeks learning the different odors of explosives.

Once I finished this program, I met my partner, K-9 Officer Jack. We began our 10-week training course together.

We became best friends right away. I remember when Officer Jack and I met for the first time. I was so excited that I just couldn’t stop jumping for joy! And I can jump high! I was always jumping during training. All my classmates and their partners started calling me “Leaping Laverne.” Officer Jack is now teaching me to only jump when I need to, so that I don’t jump up on everyone.

After training was completed, Officer Jack took me home to live with my new family, his wife and my new brother Kingston. Kingston is a yellow Lab, too, but he isn’t a working dog like me.

At home, I enjoy relaxing or playing with my KONG ball with Kingston. We are always roughhousing. He outweighs me by about 30 pounds, but I always show him who is boss. I love being able to hang out with my mommy, because she lets me get on the couch and lay beside her. She always gives me tons of hugs and kisses. I love having Officer Jack as a partner, and I love my family.

I love working at the CIA and meeting new people. If you see me, come say “hi.” But ask Officer Jack first because I may be working.
