The Path to Reform

Restoring Honesty and Accountability in Washington

In April, the Committee on Government Reform unanimously approved a bipartisan bill containing landmark reforms of the executive branch, including ending secret meetings between lobbyists and executive branch officials. The legislation requires all political appointees and senior officials in federal agencies and the White House to report the contacts they have with lobbyists and other private parties seeking to influence official government action. The legislation would also close the revolving door between government and the private sector (used by several of Mr. Abramoff's associates) to prevent lobbyists who enter government from handing out favors to their former clients.
