The CIA Seal

The Colors

The seal is mostly red, white, and blue, just like our country’s flag.

The Eagle

The bald eagle is our national bird. It symbolizes strength and alertness. (Ben Franklin was a founding father. He wanted the turkey to be the national bird. But some of the other men in the Continental Congress voted no. Many of them probably didn’t like the idea of eating the national bird every Thanksgiving.)

The Compass

The compass, or star, has 16 points. These points represent our search for intelligence all over the world. The compass rests on a shield, which is a symbol for defense. We gather intelligence to help defend the United States.
