Firewood Permits Available from Mt. Adams and Mount St. Helens Offices

VANCOUVER, WA – Personal use firewood permits for this year will go on sale starting Thursday, May 1, 2008 and will be available through November 30. The end of firewood season coincides with winter wildlife range road closures for both districts.

It should be noted that the access to some firewood cutting areas may not be possible until after June 1, due to record low elevation snowfall over the past several months.

Each firewood permit is for four cords at a cost of $5 per cord with a total cost for the permit of $20 if purchased at Forest Service office, and $21 (including a service fee) if purchased at local vendors. Four cords is the maximum amount that can be purchased per household per year.

One change in this year’s policy is that firewood will be designated for removal with yellow paint instead of green paint.

Additional information on firewood cutting areas and permit conditions will be provided when the permit is purchased.

Firewood is available on a first come, first served basis. Please call ahead to a local ranger station office for current information on availability.
