Update September 23, 2008: The Houston office is awaiting power restoration and will reopen as soon as power is restored. We will update this notice when the office reopens.
While we are confident that the Houston District Office will be open again soon, we are concerned that some Texas Gulf Coast residents who receive paper benefit checks through the mail will have trouble receiving their benefits. For this reason, and with hopes that the situation resolves soon, we offer the following advice to insurers and to claimants:
1. Insurers are instructed to continue to mail checks on schedule to the claimant’s known address. If undeliverable, they will be returned.
2. Claimants are instructed to contact the insurance company as soon as possible to either provide a change of mailing address or to request electronic fund transfers directly into bank accounts (this will require that you know your bank routing and account numbers).
3. All parties are invited to contact the New Orleans district office at (504)589-2671 for assistance until the Houston office reopens.
