At Freddie Mac, helping those in need is more than a policy – it is our culture. From new staff through senior management, people donate their time and share their abilities. And they do so enthusiastically, even in the face of today's fast-paced lives and crowded schedules. Our role is to make volunteerism easy for employees. We help match individuals' interests with volunteer opportunities, supporting their efforts to take part and even to lead. In the process, our employee volunteers contribute to making strong homes and communities possible.

Through the program, employees have helped build and repair homes with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together. Our employees have helped with Freddie Mac's Hoops for the Homeless, donated diapers for homeless children, and contributed thousands of holiday presents to students who might otherwise have faced the holidays with few or no presents. The latter is done through a special relationship with our partner school, J.C. Nalle Community School in southeast Washington, DC, in which employees also mentor and tutor students, serve as pen pals, chaperone field trips, and beautify the school grounds.

100 Freddie Mac volunteers spent a week in New Orleans in October 2007 to rebuild and renovate hurricane-damaged homes and neighborhoods.

In 2005, more than 800 Freddie Mac volunteers joined Congressional leaders and staff, administration officials, Habitat for Humanity volunteers from across the country, and celebrities to build 51 homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Recently, more than 1,000 employee volunteers left their desks to help transform a Northeast DC neighborhood during the company's Making a Community Week.

Freddie Mac employees also donate substantial amounts of time and money to organizations of their own choosing. The Freddie Mac Foundation matches employees' monetary gifts through our Matching Gifts program–up to $10,000 a year–and donations of time are matched through our Dollars-for-Doers program.
