While participating in the invasion of Sicily and the Battle of Anzio, Raymond Kellogg
would experience the horror of a brutal war. At Anzio, his buddy Hal was killed when a
shell landed in the foxhole Kellogg himself had just vacated. During the same battle, he
witnessed another soldier go mad and run wildly towards the German lines. And later,
after the war, he would learn of his brother's death in Germany and would travel by jeep
to visit his brother's grave. Kellogg vividly brings to life the story of how an ordinary
soldier experienced the Italian campaign.
